The College of Smart Materials and Future Energy (ICOME) focuses the undergraduate and graduate education programs on two directions: smart materials and future energy. Currently, we offer five undergraduate programs, namely Electronic Science & Technology (EST), Energy Chemistry, Polymer Materials & Engineering, Materials Physics, and Materials Chemistry. Additionally, the college confers academic doctoral and master's degrees in Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), Electronic Science & Technology (EST), Chemistry, and Physics, as well as professional doctoral and master's degrees in Electronic Information, and Materials & Chemical Engineering (MCE).

The College has established six teaching teams to strengthen the talent cultivation. It has also developed ten course clusters, including Electronics and Information, Multi-scale Material Characterization, Material Artificial Intelligence, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Future Optoelectronic Materials, enabling students to develop an engineering mindset. The College houses the Shanghai Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Materials Science and Engineering, and collaborates with the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Chemistry at Fudan to deliver experimental practice teaching. It has also set up internship sites with leading enterprises in the industry, such as Sinochem Group, Baowu Group, and Xiaomi Group. Students are given the opportunity to identify real-world problems and develop practical capabilities in large teams and major projects.

Recently, students have achieved important awards, including the Special Prize in the Challenge Cup National Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition for College Students and the Gold Award in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition. Since 2023, five undergraduate students have received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China for Young Students’ Basic Research Projects.

The School attaches great importance to fostering students’ global perspective. In addition to regular exchanges at international academic conferences, all students have the opportunity to engage in overseas research and study programs during their enrollment. Partner institutions include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore, City University of Hong Kong, and Kyoto University.
